New policy for user with Haka or Virtu: Extending CSC account validity by logging in

Starting from January 15, 2025, the validity of the CSC account will be extended by logging into CSC’s research services or MyCSC with Haka or Virtu at least once every six months. This applies to all users who have Haka or Virtu authentication linked to their CSC account.

What does this mean for you as a user?

  • Automatic account extension: When you use Haka or Virtu authentication when logging into CSC’s research services, your CSC account validity will be automatically extended by six months each time you log into Fairdata web interfaces (e.g., ida.fairdata.fi, qvain.fairdata.fi), MyCSC portal (my.csc.fi), or e.g. Puhti and Mahti web interfaces.
  • Optional CSC account password: Previously all CSC users were required to change their CSC account password annually to extend the account validity. You no longer need to maintain a separate CSC account password if you don’t use it for logging in. If you do use it, continue updating it as before.
  • We’ll remind you if you CSC account is expiring: As before, you will receive email reminders and instructions if your account is at risk of being locked. If you get a reminder, log into MyCSC with Haka or Virtu, if you wish to keep your CSC account active.

No changes for users who don’t have Haka or Virtu

If you use a CSC account without Haka or Virtu, the validity policies remain unchanged, and your CSC account password must be changed annually.
