Metax is the metadata repository for all research datasets and additional metadata stored in the Fairdata.fi services. Additional metadata can be added manually with an compatible metadata editor like Qvain or transferred from other sources.
End User API can be used for example to add, edit and delete datasets.
The aim is to collect as much information as possible about Finnish research data. For example the national Research Information Hub can utilize the metadata in Metax via API interface that Metax provides. Metax also offers reference datasets for the research sector.
Metax doesn’t have a graphic web user interface, but can be used over APIs.

- The easiest way (for now) to obtain dataset metadata in DataCite format:
- Get a list of datasets via Metax API in the Metax data model format (Dataset-list)
- Then retrieve each dataset’s information in DataCite format using its identifier: https://metax.fairdata.fi/v3/datasets/<identifier>/metadata-download?format=datacite
